BIOGRAPHY
SHANE BEGAN HIS PROFESSIONAL MUSIC CAREER WHILST STUDYING FOR HIS A-LEVELS IN 1997 BY PERFORMING IN PUBS AND CLUBS TO SUPPORT HIMSELF THROUGH COLLEGE. IT WAS AT BRETTON HALL, UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS, WHEN SHANE LANDED HIS FIRST THEATRE GIG WHEN HE WAS ASKED TO COMPOSE THE SCORE FOR THE VERY FIRST PRODUCTION BY THE NOW PROLIFIC, AWARD-WINNING THEATRE COMPANY THE PAPER BIRDS. HE HAS BEEN WRITING FOR AND PERFORMING WITH THEM EVER SINCE.
IMMEDIATELY AFTER GRADUATING WITH HIS TEACHING/MUSIC DEGREE, SHANE WAS SNAPPED UP BY AN INTERNATIONAL MUSIC AGENCY AND FLOWN OF TO THE FRENCH TO PLAY AS PART OF A 5-PIECE PARTY BAND IN THE STUNNING SKI RESORTS OF THE FRENCH ALPS.
IN 2005 HE BEGAN HIS TEACHING CAREER AT LINCOLN COLLEGE, WHERE HE TAUGHT SINGING AND MUSIC THEORY, LATER GOING ON TO BE HEAD OF MUSIC AT THE LINCOLN THEATRE ROYAL SCHOOL OF PERFORMING ARTS AND HEAD VOCAL COACH AT BOSTON COLLEGE. SHANE HAS TAUGHT AT MANY THEATRE SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES THROUGHOUT THE UK SINCE AND WAS HEAD OF MUSIC AT THE ROCK SCHOOL, KOTA KINABALU, MALAYSIA IN 2010.
TODAY SHANE TEACHES AT CAPA COLLEGE IN WAKEFIELD, AN OUTSTANDING COLLEGE IN THE FIELD OF PERFORMING ARTS, PREPARING STUDENTS FOR PROFESSIONAL WORK AND CONTINUED STUDY AT UNIVERSITIES AND CONSERVATORIES ALL AROUND THE WORLD.
IN 2011 SHANE WAS APPROACHED AND ASKED TO TEACH A BRAND NEW MUSICAL ONBOARD THE 'AURORA' CRUISE SAILING FROM SYDNEY AND HAWAII. IT WAS HERE HIS LOVE FOR MUSICAL DIRECTING REALLY BLOSSOMED. SINCE THEN, SHANE HAS DIRECTED MANY SHOWS AND COMPOSED MUSIC FOR A WIDE RANGE OF THEATRE COMPANIES, RECEIVING CRITICAL ACCLAIM IN NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL PRESS. HIS LOVE FOR THEATRE COMPOSING HAS PROGRESSED INTO A PASSION FOR SOUND DESIGN AND THIS IS ONE MAIN AREA THAT SHANE WISHES TO FOCUS MORE ATTENTION ON IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
TODAY SHANE SPLITS HIS CAREER BETWEEN THE 3 MAIN DISCIPLINES: PERFORMING, TEACHING AND COMPOSING/SOUND DESIGN. SHANE IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW AND EXCITING OPPORTUNITIES TO COLLABORATE, CREATE AND DEVELOP HIS DIVERSE SKILL SET.
